Beschreibung
The 356B Roadster represents an evolution of the 356A Speedster, effectively taking the place of the short-lived interim replacement for the Speedster, the Convertible D. Much like its predecessor, the Convertible D, this model adopts a sporty, open-top design characterised by a larger and removable windscreen secured with a few bolts.
Initially, the T5 body of the 356B Roadster was crafted by Drauz, the same coachbuilder responsible for the Convertible D models. Later in production, the Belgian firm D’Ieteren Freres S.A. in Brussels took on the construction of these bodies.
Produced exclusively from 1960 to 1962, only 2,902 units were manufactured during this three-year span. Of these, 561 were built in the inaugural year, with only one of them making its way to Australia.
Presented here is an early Australian-delivered Porsche 356B Roadster, originally sold by Hamiltons of Melbourne in 1960. Adorned in the timeless Condor yellow over tan leatherette combination, the car underwent a transformation from its previous Silver exterior with a red interior.
Featuring a period-correct engine, validated by Porsche Cars Australia, this exemplary vehicle has recently emerged from prolonged private ownership, having been part of an extensive classic car collection.
Maintained in superb overall condition, courtesy of the meticulous care provided by its most recent owner, the 356 impresses with straight and well-preserved paintwork and bodywork. The body gaps remain snug and consistent across each opening panel, while the interior exhibits minimal signs of wear.
The engine starts promptly without hesitation, delivering robust performance across the entire RPM range. The type 741 gearbox seamlessly navigates through each gear.
In essence, this Porsche 356B Roadster stands as a distinguished high-level driver's example of the T5 Roadster, equally comfortable on the show field or navigating spirited drives through winding back roads.
