HISTORY
Built as the last iteration of the 250 GT range, the 250 GT/L, also referred to as Lusso, benefitted from years of engineering, improvements, and refinements gained on the race cars and previous models. Presented to the world during the Paris Salon in 1962, it sported the ultimate development of the short-block Colombo 3.0 litre V12, four-wheel disc brakes, and coil over shock absorbers at all four corners. The elegant and timeless design was signed by Pininfarina, but the body was built at Scaglietti. The Lusso was built as a luxurious GT for the driver and his passenger, while being able to carry all their luggage and devour long distances comfortably. It was a hit among businessmen and celebrities, such as Steve McQueen, but still built in very limited numbers, with only 350 examples leaving the factory.
OUR 250 GT Lusso
Our 250 GT Lusso, chassis 4267GT, was finished by the factory in March 1963 in the color combination of Grigio Savidim over Rosso, a classy specification which it retains to this day. Being a very early example, believe to be the fifth ever made, it was sold by the factory directly to its first owner Enrico Wax, resident in Genova, Italy.
Less than a year later, the second owner, Walter Ronchi from Milano, bought the Lusso for 5,000,000 Lira, and soon afterwards, the Lusso was exported to France. It is believed the car spent several years with the Vittoz family in France, before being restored by Bacchelli & Villa in Italy. The 250 GT was then sold to another Frenchman in 2009, who a year later, sold it to a German collector from the Munich area, and who owns the Lusso to this day, being one of his most prized possessions.
Under the current ownership, the Lusso was driven often and thus kept to the highest mechanical standards. The engine was completely overhauled in 2013 WHS AG in Switzerland with works totaling 76,000 CHF, and more recently in 2018, over 12,000 CHF have been invested in the engine and gearbox alone.
In April of 2011, the Lusso was awarded a Ferrari Classiche Certificate, confirming that chassis 4267GT is fully matching numbers and colors. Now offered for sale with us with a large history file incl. restoration and engine overhaul pictures, this is hands down the best 250 GT Lusso we have ever driven. It performs and revs unlike we have ever seen before on a Lusso, and truly has to be experienced in person to be believed!
