Here’s one EV reboot you can’t be mad at. Meet the Renault Twingo E-Tech!

We love the original Renault Twingo at Classic Driver. Well designed, fun to drive, and a general joy, it’s no surprise that Renault is tapping one of their greatest hits for an electric makeover. Introducing the Twingo E-Tech!

When we put the original Renault Twingo in our list of 10 collector cars to watch for 2024, we knew it was going to be a big year for the cheery little French city hatchback, and we’re delighted to report it seems our suspicions were correct. Set to makes its debut at the Paris Motor Show between October 14th and 20th, the Twingo E-Tech electric prototype gives us a first glimpse at the production model that will arrive in 2026. Critically, this isn’t going to be some exclusive designer accessory of a ride either, as the Twingo E-Tech will stay true to its roots with prices starting below 20,000 euros.

Being an EV, the most critical aspect is arguably the design, something which the original Twingo absolutely nailed, looking like a happy little frog on wheels. Thankfully, the Twingo E-Tech stays true to this recipe, although this cheery little frog does look like it's headed to an EDM rave. Renault’s press release is heavily geared towards how friendly this thing looks, describing it as “Rounded, beaming and likeable,” something we can all aspire to.

There are numerous nods to the 1st generation Twingo throughout the design, with the LED headlights mimicking the shape of those found on the OG, while even the circular door handles have similarly received the Tron treatment. There are some changes, though; in place of the original Twingo’s retractable soft top, the Twingo E-Tech now features a fixed glass roof, helping to fill the cabin with daylight on those holiday drives, and the taillights now mimic those found at the front. While we expect some of the concept car frills to be toned down for production, we must admit we are very excited to see the Twingo’s cheery face on the roads in the near future.
