Hide your supercars - the monstrous Renault 5 Turbo 3E is coming!

Renault have been full of surprises lately, and it seems they’ve saved the best for the tail end of the year. Meet the Renault 5 Turbo 3E: an electric successor to the Turbo 2 that will actually make production!

It’s been a good year for Renault fans, with the likes of the R17 satiating our restomod fix, while the Renault 5 and Twingo E-Tech have been delivering big in the stylish hatchback department. However, it seems Renault is ready to fulfil every petrol head’s Christmas wishes by making a production successor to the legendary Turbo 2 hot hatch: meet the all-electric Renault 5 Turbo 3E!

Bizarrely revealed at the end of a documentary about Renault’s financial comeback, the Turbo 3E builds upon the concept we saw at the 2022 Paris Motor Show. Like the original 5 Turbo and Turbo 2, the Turbo 3E takes the bones of the Renault 5 electric hatchback and attempts to answer the question of how big of a bodykit can you fit on a hot hatch.

However, those enormous box flares aren’t the only impressive thing about the Turbo 3E, because Renault states that once numberplates are attached, it will make over 500 horsepower — delivered to the rear wheels only via two electric motors — and hit 100 km/h in 3.4 seconds. These aren’t hypercar-worrying numbers, but considering that the Turbo 2 made around 160 horsepower, it’s certainly enough to give most supercars sleepless nights.

Renault’s keeping details on this carbon-clad hyper hatch on lock until next year, but what a thing to look forward to in 2025 the Turbo 3E is!
