The Chevrolet Corvette is typically as all-American as they come, but GM’s new Advanced Design Studio in Leamington Spa are hoping to add a British touch to the next C9-generation of the iconic American sports car. It’s the first of three Corvette concepts promised to appear in 2025, with the second and third coming from GM’s LA and Detroit-based studios respectively.
It’s far from the first time a major manufacturer has challenged multiple design studios to produce the future vision for their next sports car — the original Mazda MX-5 and Porsche 996 both spring to mind — and Britain’s showing is certainly a great start with its split windscreens harking back that of the second-generation Corvette Stingray.
Unfortunately for the die-hard ‘Vetterans, this concept was imagined as an EV, trading an emotive powertrain in exchange for crazier aero reminiscent of the Aston Martin Valkyrie. It seems this concept also draws inspiration from another cutting-edge hypercar — GMA’s T.50 — with hidden fans designed to suck air through the underbody and improve downforce.
Overall its a radical new direction for the Corvette, and one we hope reflects in the final production form of the upcoming 9th-generation car. However, we do hope that the road-going version will come equipped with a great big V8. It’s only traditional, after all!
