Much can be said about the then highly advanced Porsche 928. What many people don't know is that the 928 was supposed to succeed the legendary 911 series. This (thankfully) did not become a reality. Although the 928 was a relatively successful model, the traditional 911 also remained a sought-after model and remained in production. The 928 was produced from 1978 onwards. The example we are offering is an early 78' model and was delivered new by Pon Netherlands on 25 January 1979.

All body parts fit together well, the car is rust free and the paintwork is good. The interior is also in particularly nice condition, with no cracks in the dashboard. The engine compartment is dry and the car drives, shifts and brakes well. Most 928s come with an automatic transmission but this one is equipped with the coveted and faster manual ‘’Dogleg‘’ transmission. At the time, Porsche advertised the phrase ‘from 0 to 100 km/h and back to 0 in just 10 sec’ to indicate that both acceleration and braking power were above average. Porsche also described the 928 as three cars in one: a sports car with good performance, a comfortable, luxurious coupé and a purposeful, practical vehicle suitable for long distances and almost no maintenance. These words are nothing too much to say: in addition to excellent handling, the car is richly equipped with four seats, air conditioning, cruise control and electric windows and mirrors, among others. Included with the car are a sales brochure, technical specification, colour chart and price list with options available at the time. This example in the beautiful blue metallic colour with a hint of green is particularly well preserved and an addition to any collection. In recent years, the car has been in a collection and has therefore not been driven much, so a technical check-up is recommended.

General information about the Porsche 928
The Porsche 928 was introduced in 1977 as a luxury 2+2 GT car. Due to increasingly stringent safety requirements, it had to succeed the popular 911. It was the first Porsche with a V8 engine and the first Porsche available with an automatic transmission. The design was revolutionary and thanks to the powerful, water-cooled 4.5 -litre V8 engine with 240 hp, the car had an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and a top speed of 230 km/h. The focus was on lightweight construction: the engine is therefore built of aluminium, as are several body parts and the bumpers are plastic. Otherwise, everything is electric or pneumatic. That it is a technically complex vehicle is evident from the more than 1,000 plug connections and 3 kilometres of electrical wiring present in the car. In 1978, the 928 won the title of ‘Car of the Year’. The Porsche 928 is the only sports car ever to win this title! Consequently, sales figures were good. In 1995, production ceased and the 928 was succeeded by the Porsche 968. The 928 is now considered a true classic and has a group of loyal fans with even a Porsche 928 Club in the Netherlands.

Über den damals hochmodernen Porsche 928 kann viel gesagt werden. Was viele nicht wissen ist, dass der 928 der Nachfolger der legendären 911er Serie werden sollte. Daraus ist (zum Glück) nichts geworden. Obwohl der 928 ein relativ erfolgreiches Modell war, blieb auch der traditionelle 911 ein begehrtes Modell und wurde weiter produziert. Der 928 wurde von 1978 an produziert. Das von uns angebotene Exemplar ist ein frühes 78er Modell und wurde am 25. Januar 1979 von Pon Netherlands neu ausgeliefert.

Alle Karosserieteile passen gut zusammen, das Auto ist rostfrei und die Lackierung ist gut. Auch die Innenausstattung ist in einem besonders guten Zustand, ohne Risse im Armaturenbrett. Der Motorraum ist trocken und das Auto fährt, schaltet und bremst gut. Die meisten 928er sind mit einem Automatikgetriebe ausgestattet, aber dieser ist mit dem begehrten und schnelleren Dogleg-Getriebe ausgerüstet. Damals warb Porsche mit dem Satz „von 0 auf 100 km/h und zurück auf 0 in nur 10 Sekunden“, um darauf hinzuweisen, dass sowohl die Beschleunigung als auch die Bremsleistung überdurchschnittlich gut waren. Porsche beschrieb den 928 auch als drei Autos in einem: ein Sportwagen mit guten Fahrleistungen, ein komfortables, luxuriöses Coupé und ein zweckmäßiges, praktisches Fahrzeug, das für lange Strecken geeignet ist und fast keine Wartung erfordert. Diese Worte sind nicht zu viel gesagt: Neben den ausgezeichneten Fahreigenschaften ist der Wagen reichhaltig ausgestattet, u.a. mit vier Sitzen, Klimaanlage, Tempomat und elektrischen Fensterhebern und Spiegeln. Dem Wagen liegen eine Verkaufsbroschüre, technische Daten, eine Farbkarte und eine Preisliste mit den damals verfügbaren Optionen bei. Dieses Exemplar in der schönen blauen Metallicfarbe mit einem Hauch von Grün ist besonders gut erhalten und eine Bereicherung für jede Sammlung. In den letzten Jahren befand sich der Wagen in einer Sammlung und wurde daher nicht viel gefahren, so dass eine technische Überprüfung empfohlen wird.

Allgemeine Informationen über den Porsche 928
Der Porsche 928 wurde 1977 als luxuriöser 2+2 GT-Wagen eingeführt. Aufgrund der immer strengeren Sicherheitsanforderungen musste er den beliebten 911 ablösen. Er war der erste Porsche mit einem V8-Motor und der erste Porsche, der mit einem Automatikgetriebe erhältlich war. Das Design war revolutionär und dank des leistungsstarken, wassergekühlten 4,5-Liter-V8-Motors mit 240 PS erreichte der Wagen eine Beschleunigung von 0 auf 100 km/h in 6,6 Sekunden und eine Höchstgeschwindigkeit von 230 km/h. Der Schwerpunkt lag auf dem Leichtbau: Der Motor ist daher aus Aluminium gefertigt, ebenso wie einige Karosserieteile und die Stoßstangen aus Kunststoff. Ansonsten ist alles elektrisch oder pneumatisch. Dass es sich um ein technisch komplexes Fahrzeug handelt, zeigt sich an den mehr als 1.000 Steckverbindungen und 3 Kilometern elektrischer Verkabelung, die im Auto vorhanden sind. 1978 gewann der 928 den Titel „Car of the Year“. Der Porsche 928 ist der einzige Sportwagen, der diesen Titel je gewonnen hat! Die Verkaufszahlen waren entsprechend gut. Im Jahr 1995 wurde die Produktion eingestellt und der 928 durch den Porsche 968 ersetzt. Der 928 gilt heute als echter Klassiker und hat eine treue Fangemeinde. In den Niederlanden gibt es sogar einen Porsche 928 Club.
