Vittorio, Umberto, Giannino and Paolo Marzotto were young, stylish and well connected, and enjoyed a huge amount of success during the late 1940s and early 1950s. The envy of their friends, rivals and fans, this ambitious quartet were becoming the men to beat, with Giannino winning the legendary Mille Miglia road race twice, putting him firmly in the sights of a brand he admired from a distance for some time - Ferrari. More specificially, Giannino had admired the V12 engines that powered the prancing horses. As for the aerodynamics, that was where the Ferraris fell short of the mark, which would lead him on a roller-coaster journey creating the 166MM ‘Uovo’.
Published by the well-established Porter Press International, the "Ferrari 166MM Uovo" book tells the full story of this remarkable car, from its creation and its time with Giannino Marzotto, right through to its American competition career. Promising a deep-dive into this unique car unlike any other, the book retells the story of its restoration during the 1980s – and even how it came to be photographed with movie icon James Dean. Author James Page even worked in close collaboration with renowned Ferrari expert Keith Bluemel, discovering previously unseen history that gives a fantastic insight into the Uovo’s early life.
The book also goes into detail about the amazing Marzotto family and their impact not only in the town of Valdagno, but on Italian life in general. Further adding to this amazing story, the book is complete with rarely seen images and a revealing interview with Giannino’s nephew, Matteo Marzotto.
We’re delighted to report that this stunning new book, which gives a detailed look at an important era in Ferrari’s history and road racing that saw talented privateers take on, and occasionally triumph against established aces, is now available to purchase in the CD Shop!
