Description

The Lamborghini Miura can be credited with creating the supercar as we know it today; a car that so radically changed car design in the late 60s, that its influence can still be seen in the design of some of the modern hypercars we see currently released. The appearance of the Miura P400 prototype on the Lamborghini stand at the 1966 Geneva Salon changed the automotive landscape forever. It was quite simply unlike any production car that gone before, both in its appearance and its construction and it introduced a design language that has dominated the supercar ethos for the past 50 years.

Aside from its aesthetic appeal, the engineering underneath its skin was remarkable, with a steel monocoque and transverse-mounted 4.0-litre V12 engine making it the fastest production car of its day. Perhaps the most extraordinary part of the Miura was not its looks or performance, but the fact that this legendary car was the creation of four of the greatest engineers and designers all in their relative youth: Marcello Gandini, Gian Paolo Dallara, Bob Wallace, and Giotto Bizzarrini.

Just 474 P400 Miuras were built between 1966 and 1969, with successive “S” and “SV” models continuing production through until 1973.

This rare factory right-hand drive Lamborghini Miura P400 was delivered new to Sir Malcolm Guthrie in the UK on 29 July 1968 via Lamborghini London. Guthrie, from a banking family, had just begun his racing career in Formula 3 and later acquired a Ford GT40. Factory records confirm the Miura was fitted with a “Special Engine" upgrade, wider wheels & tyres, Koni shock absorbers and stiffened anti roll bars. Both the factory and dealer invoices are available, and a Motoring News article from 1969 featured Guthrie and his Miura.

The car's second owner, British racer Marc Rigg, modified it for club racing in the 1970s, repainting it black and adding performance upgrades such as lightweight fairings, a competition clutch, ventilated brakes, an oil cooler, open carburettors, and a straight-through exhaust. In the mid-1980s, it was acquired by Martin Cliffe, founder of Omicron Engineering, who upgraded it to Miura SV specifications with Lamborghini London's involvement, repainting it light green with a dark blue interior. The car was featured in Supercar Classics in 1988 alongside a Ferrari 365 GTB/4 Daytona.

The Miura later sold at a London Motor Show auction in 1989 to David R. Holland before being acquired by a Swiss museum in 1993. The museum’s founder, a former racing driver, had it partially restored and repainted it yellow. The car remained in Switzerland until 2023, when it was acquired by its current owner in the United Kingdom. Since then, the interior has been retrimmed in Nero leather. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a factory right-hand-drive example of the first ever supercar. Contact us today for more information or to arrange a viewing.
