Description

The Lamborghini Miura is arguably the most iconic sports car of the late 1960s and early 1970s. Born from the after-hours musings of Lamborghini engineers Giampaolo Dallara, Paolo Stanzani and Bob Wallace, the Miura is a technical and stylistic masterpiece.

At the 1966 Geneva Motor Show, Lamborghini were ready to unveil the very first production supercar to the world. Not only was the Miura the first production mid-engine supercar, it was also the world’s fastest production car at the time of its release. The model boasted an impressive 350 bhp and coupled with its lightness, it was capable of reaching a top speed of 170 mph. The prowess of the Miura was supported by the transversely mounted 60-degree V12 engine and a five speed all-synchromesh gearbox. The model was given the designation ‘P400’ which represented the engine size and position, with ‘P’ referring to ‘Posteriore’ (rear) and 400 signifying a 4-litre engine.

Over time, slight changes would be made to the Miura and two further variations would be introduced: the P400 S and P400 SV. However, it is the Miura P400 that is by far the purest and is the true representation of the masterpiece created by Lamborghini and Bertone. In total, only 270 P400 examples were produced.

Chassis 3111 was one such example, it was completed at the end of August 1967 and was delivered new to Voitures Paris Monceau on the 2nd September. It was finished in the stunning, and very fitting for the period, colour combination of Giallo Miura over a Blu interior, with only 40 P400s being finished in Giallo Miura from new. The car was built with a selection of technical updates, including a reinforced front cross member and an additional spacer under the alternator pulley to optimise its operation.

In 1968, it was featured in the cult French film 'La leçon particulière', where it was driven by the female lead, the beautiful Nathalie Delon. The car benefits from just over 40 years in single ownership from 1979 to 2020 and is fresh from a world-class restoration by Modenese marque and model experts.

A truly stunning example of the purest iteration of the Miura model line and it is ready to be used and enjoyed by its next custodian or proudly displayed at one of the world's great Concours d'Elegance.
