Anyone who’s seen Jim Carrey’s 2003 comedy classic Bruce Almighty will remember the movie’s hero car: the outrageously cool Saleen S7. Well, it turns out they built an even more extreme version of the already bonkers hypercar, with this being one of just three examples that were upgraded to LM specification from 2017 to 2019.
As a refresher, the Saleen S7 was already more than potent, equipped with a bespoke carbon fibre chassis, race-derived suspension and a 7.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, ingredients that made it a formidable competitor on track. In fact, various racing versions of the S7 won at the 12 Hours of Sebring and 24 Hours of Le Mans to name just a few, with the S7 racking up over 100 victories between 2000 and 2010.
To celebrate, in early 2017 they announced the S7 LM, with just seven lucky owners being hand-picked to receive the upgrades. However, in the end just three were completed, with this particular late-production 2007 S7 undergoing the transformation in 2018.
Redesigned turbos, fed cold air from the revised roof-mounted intake shroud, helped bump power to over 1,000 rampaging ponies, with as much as 1,300 horsepower available depending on fuel and the state of tune. All that grunt was deployed to the rear wheels alone — no all-wheel-drive safety net here — via a six-speed manual gearbox, helping the S7 LM to reportedly hit an astonishing 240 mph.
The LM packaged didn’t just increase the power. The interior was refreshed with a mountain of Alcantara, while aero improvements included a biplane rear wing, rear lip spoiler, rear diffuser, side skirts, air vents, and an enclosed underbody. Stopping power comes courtesy of six-piston calipers with slotted, two-piece floating rotors at each corner, helping to ensure you don’t run out of road.
Now that you’re up-to-speed with this modern-classic performance icon, we’re sure you’ll want to keep a close eye on RM Sotheby’s Arizona sale on January 24th, where this rare beast will go under the hammer.
