Did you believe that Volvo only used to make spacious and practical cars? Not quite right! The Volvo P1800 was one of the most dainty coupés of its day. It also happens to very reliable and well-behaved on the road. Volvo introduced the 2+2 in 1961 when it saw opportunities for a sports coupé in Europe and the States. Helmer Petterson lead on the development after having been responsible for the PV444. The design was done by his son Pelle under the auspices of Pietro Frua. The first three prototypes were built by Frua between 1957 and 1958.

We always like having the extra Volvo P1800 in our collection and are happy to be able to offer this red Swede up for sale. It is a 1965 P 1800S originally supplied to the States. There it lived a charmed life in beneficial climacteric circumstances. The paintwork was refreshed keeping to the original, colour-code 46, red. Since then the car has been owned by enthusiasts and only sparingly used over the last 15 years. Mechanically it has been correctly maintained and the bodywork has been kept in a lovely condition. All in all, everything is particularly well presented.

The bodywork is in an honest neat condition. On detailed inspection you will bound to find some evidence of normal wear. The healthy panelwork is excellently aligned.
Inside is also very neat and tidy. The good seats have been reupholstered in black leather. The red carpets are in good condition as is the rest of the cabin. Dashboard and components all look great and are in good working order. Everything presents as above the average with nothing to find needing attention.
The centre console features a 4-speed transmission gearstick. Adding comfort at higher speeds is courtesy of an overdrive. The engine, a B18 B power plant, looks great and is mechanically sound, we hardly need to emphasise this coupé’s reliability.
Do not expect sportscar performance, the P1800 is intended as a comfortable riding GT, whilst it is more than capable in keeping up with today’s traffic. Driving in classic rallies is delightful with its very pleasant road handling capabilities. Should you avail yourself of that opportunity, you will find a Brantz 2 tripmaster at your navigators disposal. Two SU-carburettors with K&N filters supply the engine with the fine sound of air intake.

This model Volvo is an excellent choice for those looking for a pleasant and reliable classic car with stylish and sportive credentials. This particular example is just waiting to be used regularly.
