AC’s Ace was an immensely successful car in every way; it sold strongly, won races and was perhaps the loveliest car of its era. AC, however, had no replacement planned and again AC looked destined to cease when Bristol ended production of the 2 litre engine which had become the backbone of ACs range. Then Carroll Shelby, a Texan chicken farmer and racing driver, had the bright idea of fitting a 4 litre Ford V8 engine into an Ace chassis and so the legendary AC "Shelby” Cobra was born. When production ended the world was left hungry for more and so when the Brooklands works of Autokraft Ltd acquired rights to build the cars again, they were in much demand.
The example on offer here is a 1989 aluminium-bodied car built to the vendor’s own specifications, with only 21,000 miles recorded since new. In 2006, it was the subject of an extensive upgrade
