The original Mini was produced in 1959 by BMC (British Motor Corporation), and was the first car to have front-wheel drive combined with a transversely-mounted engine. The revolutionary design was penned by Sir Alec Issigonis (1906–1988). Currently, BMW produces a whole family of cars under the MINI brand.
