Beschreibung
In 1957, Volkswagen announced a cabriolet version of the increasingly popular Karmann Ghia for their 1958 model year. Like its coupe counterpart, these convertibles featured what enthusiasts now refer to as the “low light,” front-end design, which lasted until late 1959. Built in small numbers for only a year and a half, low -light Karmann Ghia Convertibles are exceedingly rare and have become highly sought after by collectors. This extraordinary example is particularly exceptional as the recent recipient of a concours-quality restoration, which was completed in 2022 by award-winning Volkswagen experts Wagenmasters.
Refinished in its original color combination of Bernina Blue with blue leatherette upholstery and a navy Stayfast canvas top, the quality of its rotisserie restoration is evident throughout. Such attention to detail extends to the inclusion of period-correct accessories, including leather luggage, factory mudflaps, and dual albert mirrors. The interior also features rare period accessories, including a tachometer, Blaupunkt Hamburg radio with shortwave adapter, and a map light.
Documented by restoration photographs, records and factory Zertifikat, this Karmann Ghia is a remarkable example that has won best in class in every show it has entered since restoration. With its gorgeous original color combination, sensational restoration, rare period accessories, and extreme rarity as a low- light convertible, this Karmann Ghia would be an incredible addition to even the most discerning Volkswagen collections.
