The Triumph TR3 was built between 1955 and 1957 and was powered by a 1991cc engine which initially produced 95bhp increasing to 100bhp at 5000rpm. The four-speed manual transmission could be supplemented by an overdrive unit on the top three ratios electrically operated and controlled by a switch on the dashboard. In 1956, the front brakes changed from drum to disc becoming the first British series production car to be so fitted. Because of these disc brakes, the TR3 and subsequent TR3A's became known for their superior braking ability making it an autocross favourite. In 1957, the TR3 was replaced by an updated version, the TR3A, which included new wide front grille, exterior door handles, lockable boot handle and came with a full toolkit as standard, although the TR3A's still retained the 1991cc engine.

This very special 1957 TR3 Sports car has benefitted from some high-end driver focused upgrades. Originating from the US, this vehicle has had some serious works to the suspension, brakes, steering and is fitted with a very slick five-speed gearbox. The items that usually disappoint in a TR3 have been addressed and be prepared for a car that accelerates, steers and brakes like a car of far more modern times. Visually the car looks gorgeous in Pale Primrose, complemented by the Saddle Tan leather interior, edged Caramel carpets, black vinyl hood and the wooden steering wheel. In May 2019, new front brake discs and pads were fitted along with brake hoses and caliper seal repair kits. It was also fitted with a Delphi remote vacuum brake servo. There are many invoices for servicing, parts and maintenance since arriving in UK which can be found in the history file and a recent oil and filter service has just been carried out. Recently the carbs have been rebuilt with a professional engine set up and specialist tune up at an approximate cost of circa £1,000 added to which a new radiator has also been fitted. This TR3 looks fantastic and drives extremely well with the owner saying ' be prepared for it surprisingly good acceleration'. The perfect British classic sports car. Consigned by James Good.
