OVERVIEW

Offered for sale on SBX Cars is this complete one-of-one 1994 Toyota Supra VeilSide Custom, finished in Nogaro Blue with Violet Pearl over a red interior, showing 46,859 miles at the time of cataloging.

MODEL HISTORY

Introduced in 1994, the fourth-generation Supra was not only the fastest Supra ever, but also one of the most formidable performance cars Toyota has offered.

The three previous generations of the six-cylinder came in for a fair amount of criticism, something Toyota was by no means oblivious to when developing the fourth-generation car.

Facing the criticism head on, Toyota’s planners invited various automotive journalists to drive rival cars and offer feedback and suggestions on everything from aesthetics to steering feel.

Making its debut in May 1993, the new Supra represented a concerted effort to give those critics everything they wanted.

Although the fourth-gen Supra shares its platform with the upscale Toyota Soarer coupe – sold in the U.S. as the Lexus SC – the two cars looked nothing alike, with the Supra more than 13 inches (340 mm) shorter than its luxurious cousin.

The new Supra was only available with one body style, too, although a lift-off Sport Roof – known as an Aertop in Japan – remained optional.

Where the previous-generation came in for heavy criticism was how big it was, but the new car was around 4 inches (100 mm) shorter and on a 1.8-inch (45 mm) shorter wheelbase, although the overall width was up 4.7 inches (120 mm).

At roughly the same size as a Corvette, the new Supra may have been one of the bigger cars in its class, but a careful diet trimmed around 125 pounds (60 kg) off the car, making it lighter than the smaller Nissan 300ZX, though not quite as light as the Mazda RX-7.

As well as its smaller proportions and lighter weight, the new Supra again had double-wishbone/multi-link suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and most models came with ABS.

Normally-aspirated cars came with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission, while turbocharged models were available with a choice of four-speed automatic with manual shift mode or a new six-speed gearbox, in addition to a Torsen limited-slip differential and electronic traction control.

Earlier 2.0-liter sixes made way for a new 3.0-liter 2JZ engine, making 220 horsepower in normally-aspirated 2JZ-GE form, while the turbocharged 2JZ-GTE now has intercooled sequential twin turbochargers, providing more power and less lag than the earlier single-turbo engines.

More power and less weight meant the fourth-gen Supra was a very fast car, with normally-aspirated cars almost matching the previous Supra Turbo, while twin-turbo Supras were capable of 0-60 mph (0-97 km/h) in around 5 seconds, and an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).

In terms of sheer capability, the fourth-gen Supra left little to be desired and tuners found that it was possible to extract substantially more power, as is the case with this 1994 Toyota Supra VeilSide Custom.

THIS 1994 TOYOTA SUPRA VEILSIDE CUSTOM

While there’s no shortage of customized Supras on the market, few – if any – are as notable as this 1994 Toyota Supra VeilSide Custom.

Conceived by owner, Christian Coujin, it’s a one-of-one complete custom build, sporting more VeilSide products than you can imagine.

When Hot Compact & Imports magazine covered the car in June 2004, it was said at the time to be one of only two Supras on U.S. soil sporting a true VeilSide Fortune ‘03 body kit, which totally transforms the car, with the only thing remaining stock being the roofline.

Every aspect of the exterior was modified into a sleek, unusual package; from the Veilside headlight conversion, to the aero mirrors, hood, custom carbon Kevlar rear spoiler, and custom-molded side skirts and rear panels.

The Supra was painted in a custom Nogaro Blue with Violet Pearl which, according to the seller, was recently freshened up at the front by Phantasykolors in Snohomish, WA.

The makeover of the exterior was further enhanced by the installation of a set of J-spec ‘98 tail-lights and an authentic VeilSide window banner.

VeilSide flares were filled with a set of HRE performance wrapped in Pirelli rubber, behind which sit Brembo 14.1-inch big brakes up front, with regular Brembo rotors and Hawk Pro brake pads at the rear, while braking fluid flows through a set of Goodridge steel-braided brake lines.

In order to handle well, brake correctly and show off the perfect stance, the Supra was equipped with a set of Öhlins fully adjustable coilovers, Tein pillow-ball mounts, and a TRD strut tower bar.

Even though the exterior of the Supra is what you would expect to capture attention, don’t be the least bit fooled by this car’s beauty, as underneath it all lies an incredible motor.

During the build, Coujin took the HKS catalog and ordered one – and in some cases two – of nearly everything, making it an almost complete HKS engine package.

A GT2835 ball-bearing twin-turbo setup is one of the first things you notice when you look under the hood, paired with a set of dual SSQV blow-off valves, twin racing wastegates, twin adjustable-cam sprockets, a 264-degree camshaft for the intake and exhaust, a set of turbo heat shields, and a Hyper titanium cat-back exhaust.

That’s not all though, as Coujin also opted for a 4-inch downpipe, metal head gasket, 1.6 mm stopper, high-flow fuel pump, 680cc injectors, iridium racing spark plugs, as well as a range of Blitz products, including a front-mounted intercooler, intercooler piping, and dual cold-air intakes.

After having the 2JZ-GTE custom ported and polished, VeilSide supplied a surge tank manifold, 100 mm throttle body, and a high-flow fuel rail, with other goodies found in the engine compartment including an ARC oil filler cap, ARP head studs, TRD engine mounts, GReddy dual oil coolers, an oil filter relocation kit, pulley kit, oil catch tank, Fluidyne aluminum radiator, and FAL dual electric fans.

To handle the heavy load, the transmission was beefed up with an HKS triple-plate clutch, along with an HKS lightweight aluminum flywheel and C’s short shifter.

With so much money invested in the motor work and transmission, naturally Coujin wanted to make certain that he had all the right electronics thus, inside the cockpit, you will find a Blitz SBC-ID boost controller, field power monitor, A’PEXi Super AFC-II, HKS vein pressure controller with 2835 ROM, turbo timer, and a GReddy boost-cut controller.

Entertainment features include a Soundstream Tarantula amplifier, JL monoblock amplifier, two Audiobahn capacitors, two JL W6V2 10-inch subwoofers, Focal K-series Kevlar speakers, and an Alpine IVA D-900 mobile multimedia station with IVA D-900 XM satellite module.

Moving up front, there’s a set of bright red Bride Dinos II carbon Kevlar racing seats and four-point safety harnesses.

VeilSide also got the nod on the interior too, with a comboat carbon-fiber steering wheel matched up to a Top Secret quick-release system, shift knob, racing pedals, Blitz boost gauge, EGT warning gauge, fuel pressure and gauge.

A custom set of suede and carbon-fiber door panels, silver carbon-fiber dash, carbon-fiber pillars, floormats, suede Targa top and microfiber carpet are just some of the unique accessories that put this Supra in a class of its own.

Offering his Custom Supra VeilSide exclusively via auction on sbxcars.com, Coujin said, “I’m pleased to offer for the first time my 1994 Supra Veilside Custom that has never been offered for sale, until now.”

“This car from its beginning build has been one of my favorite cars in my collection for almost 20 years."

“Car enthusiasts will recognise and truly appreciate this car as a true ‘time machine’ with equipment that is scarce and hard to find."

“It has been featured in JDM custom magazines, at car shows and HIN shows, and has won countless awards.”

MECHANICAL

According to Coujin, the car has been primarily displayed in his collection since its build, with periodic maintenance and light driving since 2011.

The Supra has been mechanically maintained by Ishii Motor Industries in Bellevue, WA, and was tuned in February 2024.

WHAT’S INCLUDED IN THE SALE

Included in the sale of this vehicle are a set of VeilSide wheels, along with a set of KW performance coilover shocks.
