The 205 GTI was born of a succession of bets and good ideas from the Sochaux factory. While the 205, launched in 1982, was an immediate commercial success that saved Peugeot from a more than shaky financial situation, its GTI version brought together a large number of customers around a passion for sport at a low price. Launched in 1984 with just 105bhp under the bonnet, the 205 GTI quickly stole the show from its direct competitor, the Golf I GTI, with its outdated design and basic equipment. The many aesthetic features fitted to the GTI were a reminder of the car's sporty character, while retaining a certain discretion appreciated by its owners. More than 300,000 examples were produced, with prices ranging from 69,000 to 104,000 francs. It was a real success, and recently entered the world of collectors' cars, where its popularity has never waned.

Delivered new in June 1988, this Peugeot 205 GTI is presented in its original Peugeot meije white colour, its paintwork shows only minor age-related defects but is very good overall; only the bumper plastics are tending to whiten as on many examples but are not cracked. The upholstery is also in good condition, with no tears or sagging, and perfectly covers the interior, which features bright red carpets that have retained all their original lustre.
The dashboard is still very fresh, but the three-spoke steering wheel is still in good condition. As far as the engine is concerned, the promise of sensations made by Peugeot at the launch of the 205 GTI is still very real today. The 1580 cm3 is furious and behaves well, it seems to deliver its original 115 bhp and provides the driver with good driving pleasure. The 205 GTI's main asset is its manual sunroof, which uncovers a large section of the roof and is almost like a Targa.
With service invoices dating back to the early 1990s, the Peugeot 205 GTI had its exhaust, brakes and timing replaced during a major overhaul this year.
