The story of the Datsun 240Z begins in 1969 under a different brand name: Nissan, as the Datsun name was only used for exports. This brand introduced the Fairlady Z, a compact and relatively affordable sports sedan. A year later, the brand presents the car in America as the Datsun 240Z, for practically the same price as the MGB GT. The 240Z, with later editions referred to as the 260Z and 280Z due to different engines sizes, becomes a Japanese icon. And precisely just such an icon is now in our showroom.
This bright green 240Z you see here practically jumps off the screen. It will come as no surprise when we say that this Japanese sports car comes completely restored. The restoration alone involved about 1,800 hours of work, and that shows in the condition of the coupe. As if the green paint didn't stand out enough, a set of beloved 15" Rota wheels has been mounted. The paint is in fantastic condition and has been treated with Meguiar's paint sealant. Panel fit? With a Japanese car, we don't even need to emphasize that: it's spot-on!
The interior of the Datsun has, of course, been included in the restoration, making it look fantastic inside as well. The black leatherette seats have been reupholstered. The same goes for the carpets and door panels. Special attention has been given to the dashboard, which, like the center tunnel, features a special 'flocking' technique. A special treatment method widely used in the car and rally sports to prevent annoying glare. All gauges and controls work as they should.
Under the hood is a beautifully restored and overhauled 2.4-liter straight-six engine with overhead camshaft. This engine is not only in perfect mechanical condition but is also exceptionally beautiful to look at. Not only has the car recently had its maintenance, but the valves, pistons, gaskets, and much more have been renewed. The fact is, the hood of such a solid Japanese car may not need to be opened very often, but it's reassuring to know that the engine looks so fresh. The engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox that shifts smoothly and precisely.
A truly exceptional classic, gaining more and more appreciation. This, combined with its visual and technical super condition, will no doubt make this 240Z a fantastic classic sports car for its next owner.
