Beschreibung
The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren stands as a testament to one of Formula One's most fruitful technical alliances. Born from a partnership between McLaren and Mercedes-Benz that yielded four world championships, 78 Grand Prix victories, and 231 podium finishes between 1995 and 2014, the SLR embodies the pinnacle of shared motorsport expertise.
Conceived in 1998, the program gained significant momentum under the guidance of Gordon Murray, the visionary behind the McLaren F1 and numerous championship-winning Formula One designs. At the heart of the SLR rested a potent 626 horsepower, supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine, masterfully integrated into an ultra-rigid carbon fiber monocoque chassis. Power was delivered to the rear wheels via an AMG Speedshift R five-speed automatic transmission, propelling the car to a top speed of 207 mph and achieving 0-60 mph in approximately 3.5 seconds. To manage its considerable mass of 3,843 lbs, the SLR employed a state-of-the-art braking system. Eight-piston front and four-piston rear calipers acted upon carbon-ceramic discs, working in concert with the advanced Sensotronic brake-by-wire system.
However, it was arguably in its styling that the SLR best reflected Murray's trend-setting design approach. The steering wheel's positioning, nearly nine feet from the car's nose, optimized weight distribution. Elegant butterfly doors and distinctive side-exhausts paid homage to the legendary 300 SLR "Uhlenhaut" coupe of 1955, while the curved "raised nose" radiator intake stanchions were a nod to the car's Formula One lineage.
Finished in elegant Crystal Laurit Silber (silver) over optional Silver Arrow Leather in 300 SL Rot (red), chassis number 139 is a beautifully preserved example of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. First registered on 28 September 2004, this particular SLR has graced the collections of just three discerning German owners since new. The interior features a large driver's seat paired with a medium-sized passenger seat, as well as an array of standard modern conveniences ensuring comfort for both occupants. These include a premium Bose Sound system, a navigation system with integral radio and CD player, and dual-zone automatic climate control further enhancing the SLR's everyday usability. Of particular note are its optional 19-inch nine-spoke wheels, with their distinctive turbine-inspired design echoing the car's aeronautical influences and perfectly complementing the SLR's numerous air vents.
The maintenance history of chassis 139 stands as a testament to its careful ownership. Services documented in its stamped service book were carried out in 2006, 2008, 2010, 2014, and 2018, with odometer readings indicating consistently low mileage throughout its life. Notably, the car was cherished by its original owner until 2019. Acquired by the current consignor in 2023, chassis 139 has continued to receive exemplary care. Most recently, on 23 January 2023 at 14,929 kilometers or just over 9,200 miles, the car underwent a service at the Mercedes-Benz approved service center of Autohaus Löhlein GmbH & Co. KG. This included changing the oil, coolant, brake fluid, and interior combination filter.
With its documented provenance, careful maintenance, and low mileage, chassis 139 represents a rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding example of the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. As these collaborative masterpieces continue to appreciate in both value and collectability, this particular car stands ready to become the centerpiece of any distinguished collection of important modern supercars.
