Beschreibung
Ordered on February 18, 1970, and departing the factory on September 1 of the same year, this Ghibli set sail for New York, destined for the dealer Foreign Car City Inc. Its Blu Pervinca exterior and Senape Tan interior, along with wire wheels and a Becker AM/FM radio, made it a sight to behold.
The Ghibli was a bold leap into the future for Maserati. It represented a departure from previous designs, aligning with the dawn of the Autostrada network in Italy and Europe, heralding a new era for Grand Touring cars. This Ghibli, the first V8 Berlinetta from Maserati, was codenamed Tipo 115. Designed by Ghia and the talented Giorgetto Giugiaro, it was a sleek, glamorous road jet. The car, named after a wind in Libya, was wide, low, and chiselled for speed, embodying both speed and class.
The Ghibli's design innovations included large disc brakes and a traditional rear suspension with a Salisbury axle and leaf springs, making it both comfortable and predictable to drive. Its manual ZF 5-speed transmission and the option for an automatic 3-speed by Borg-Warner added to its allure. The car was a hit in the USA, noted for its stability and long-distance cruising capabilities. It could gracefully cruise above 200km/h, offering a serene driving experience.
In 1979, the previous owner, Mr Marco Derrick and his father, both avid car enthusiasts, discovered this Ghibli at an auction in Indiana. Marco, then only 26 years old, became its proud second owner. However, after a minor accident in 1980, the car, with only 28,500 miles, was stored in the family's garage. Marco dreamed of restoring this gem, but life's demands took precedence, and he passed away before realizing this dream. After 37 years of storage, Marco's beloved Ghibli emerged, a treasure of memories and unfulfilled dreams emerged, and the car was sold and changed ownership. This is your opportunity to restore this car to its original condition.
