Beschreibung
This Maserati Ghibli AM115 1130, ordered on October 18, 1969, is a vehicle that embodies the spirit of Italian luxury and engineering prowess. This specific Ghibli, with its 4.7-litre engine, Beige Metalizzatto exterior, and Senape Tan interior, was not only a personal luxury for its owner, Mr. Nunzio Lo Verde from Palermo, but also a showpiece, making its first appearance at the 1969 Frankfurt Motor Show, which began on October 16 of that year.
The Ghibli was Maserati's bold step into the future, marking a significant departure from its previous designs. This grand tourer was introduced as the brand's first V8 Berlinetta, codenamed Tipo 115. The design, entrusted to Ghia and the talented Giorgetto Giugiaro, was a sleek, glamorous, and road-jetting aesthetics masterpiece. The car's name, inspired by a wind blowing from the mountains of Libya towards the Mediterranean, mirrored its design's blend of speed and elegance.
Equipped with large disc brakes all around and an advanced rear suspension system, the Ghibli was known for its comfort and ease of driving. It featured a manual ZF 5-speed standard transmission, with an automatic 3-speed version by Borg-Warner also offered. Its popularity extended to the United States, where its substantial presence was greatly appreciated, even significantly influencing automotive design.
The Ghibli AM115 1130, with its distinctive colour scheme and advanced features, was more than just a vehicle; it was a statement of luxury and performance, a testament to the era's Italian automotive excellence.
