Beschreibung
The Lancia Flaminia Sport Series 2 was the second Zagato-bodied Lancia Flaminia variant to be unveiled. Debuting in 1960, the Series 2 was built in an updated coupe body style that featured exposed headlights (where the Sport Series 1 had distinct covered headlights). Initially, the Series 2 was powered by a 140hp 2.5L V6 engine, although this engine was replaced in 1962 by the larger and more powerful 150hp 2.8L V6. Both of these engines sent drive to the rear wheels through a 4 speed manual transmission. It's a very rare car, with a total of only 344 examples built before production ended in 1963 and the Lancia Flaminia Super Sport was introduced. It is one of the greatest Zagato creations, with the synonimouis "double bubble" roof with improved aerodynamics.
This example was delivered new in Italy in the classy colour combination of Avorio Chantilly with an interior in red hide. Following the ASI certificate, the car had a carburetor upgrade to 3 Webers by the factory just after delivery. It's an older restoration, still in good condition with a gorgeous and beautifully patinated interior. When the car came to Belgium in 2017, the then owner wanted more power and found a completely overhauled Flamina Super Sport 3/C engine, measuring 2,8 litre and producing a healthy 160 bhp. The original matching nrs engine is still with the car, also in perfectly running condition and mounted on a tripod including exhaust and control panel, so it can still be activated on a regular base.
Technically, this Flaminia is in great condition and a surprisingly impressive car to drive : it's really fast and nimble on country roads, all to the accompaniment of a fantastic exhaust sound. This is a real driver's car, and that's exactly what the present owner has done with it covering over 18.000 km in the last 7 years including two successful Gran Premio Nuvolari participations in 2022 and 2023. The Lancia has a Belgian road registration, and comes with a FIVA passport and ASI Gold certificate. Also the invoices from the maintenance and repair works during his ownership are in the file.
This rare Zagato-designed and Zagato-built Lancia is now looking for a new custodian. It's a fantastic machine which offers so much driving pleasure, and accepted for almost any road event. Probably in one of the best colour combinations for such an extravagant sportscar, and ready to be enjoyed. This is one of the most successful merges of two top Italian brands from the 1960s, and given its rarity and desirability an enduring icon.
