The Jalpa is the final evolution of the V8 Lamborghini following the Urraco and Silhouette. Based on the chassis of the Silhouette, it was equipped with a 3.0-litre V8 engine with a displacement of 3.5 litres in the middle.

Perhaps the most important innovation of the Jalpa was the inclusion of the final aluminium 90-degree V8 engine from the Urraco and Silhouette. The displacement was souped up to 3.5 litres (3485 cc) with an enlarged bore from the Silhouette's 3.0 litre and fitted with four Weber ‘42DCNF’ twin carburettors; a 9.2:1 compression ratio was used to produce 255 hp maximum power and 32 kgm maximum torque and a top speed of 248 km/h.

The styling of the targa top, which flowed from the silhouette, was created by French-born Marc Deschamps, who had been style director of Carrozzeria Bertone since 1980.
It was designed by Giulio Alfieri, who had been General Manager and Technical Director of Lamborghini.
The interior has modern looks, despite the extensive use of leather, as was typical of 1980s supercars. Many motoring journalists praised its straightforward, uncompromising handling in road test articles published in specialist magazines at the time.

At the 1984 Geneva Motor Show, the Series 2 was launched with bumpers and air intakes in the same colour as the body, rounded tail lamps and a new interior shape. 1988 marked the end of Jalpa's history with a total of 420 cars produced.

This Jalpa in stunning colour was imported to Japan in 1985.
