Superseding the LP400 S in 1982, the Countach LP 5000 S was powered by a 4,754-cc version of Lamborghini’s mighty V-12 engine. Breathing through six Weber 45 DCOE carburettors, the displacement was 500 cc greater than that of the LP400 S. The most noticeable change was not the power output, which remained at 375 horsepower, but how it was delivered, arriving 1,000 rpm earlier than its predecessor. A distinctive feature of the 5000 S was the flared wheel arches, which housed the widest wheels ever fitted to a production car.
This Countach 5000 S was delivered on 27 July 1984 to a gentleman in Monaco. It left the Sant’Agata Bolognese factory finished in the highly desirable combination of Bianco over Bianco. In the 1990s, the Lamborghini left Europe and was exported to the United States. By 1996 it was registered in California, and in 2004 an odometer discrepancy was noted—a CARFAX report can be found on file. By 2015, the car had returned to Europe.
In 2013, prior to leaving the United States, more than $30,000 was spent on mechanical work, including a full engine-out overhaul and clutch replacement. The work was carried out by Fast Cars of Redondo Beach and is documented by invoices on file.
In June 2016, Top Motors removed and rebuilt the gearbox with new seals and synchros. The front and rear suspension received new bushings and shock absorbers. Further work included new wheel bearings, and cleaning of the carburettors and fuel tank. While in the care of the current owner, this Countach received new door seals, a door strut, coolant pipes, wiring repairs, and a significant overhaul of the braking system, which included new brake pads and ventilated discs. Two new tyres were fitted, and wheel alignment was carried out. The work was carried out by Lamborghini Singen in November 2021.
Well maintained and retaining its matching-numbers engine, this LP5000 S presents an unmissable opportunity to acquire a cossetted example of Lamborghini’s flagship supercar, finished in one of the most desirable colour combinations.
