In an unusual move from Lamborghini's Centro Stile division, the 2021 Monterey Car Week saw the forward-thinking design studio indulge in nostalgia with the unveiling of the Countach LPI 800-4. A stunning modern interpretation of the seminal 1970s supercar, the limited-production LPI 800-4 paid homage to the original while showcasing the company's latest technological underpinnings.
Based on the Aventador's carbon fiber architecture, the LPI 800-4 employed a state-of-the-art hybrid powertrain pairing the Aventador's glorious naturally aspirated 6.5-liter V12 engine producing 769 horsepower with a 34-horsepower 48-volt electric motor. The innovative system, similar to that used in the Sián hypercar, utilized a supercapacitor rather than a conventional lithium-ion battery, resulting in a total output of 803 horsepower while offering optimal efficiency and weight savings. This exceptional powerplant delivered hypercar levels of performance-zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 355 km/h (220.58 mph)-accompanied by an intense, metallic-tinged V12 soundtrack.
The exterior design, led by Mitja Borkert, captured the essence of its predecessor through thoughtfully incorporated heritage elements. The clean, wedge-shaped carbon fiber body featured distinctive touches like pentagonal wheel arches housing staggered 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels, prominent NACA air intakes, and a glazed roof panel that referenced the periscope system of early Countach models. The launch color, Bianco Siderale, featured a distinctive blue pearlescent finish, paying homage to Ferruccio Lamborghini's personal Countach LP 400 S.
The interior married classic Countach design motifs, like geometric stitching and square-section seat inserts, with modern Lamborghini luxury appointments including an 8.4-inch touchscreen complete with Apple CarPlay. In contrast to the cramped cabin of the original Countach, the LPI 800-4 incorporated a photochromic glass roof panel that could be lightened at the touch of a button for a spacious, airy feel.
Limited to just 112 units worldwide, reflecting the original car's internal "LP 112" designation, the entire production run was quickly spoken for. Among them was chassis 11159 presented here, delivered on 31 March 2022 via Lamborghini Stuttgart in the stunning launch livery of Bianco Siderale over a Rosso Alala and Nero Ade leather interior. Additional highlights detailed in the original configuration documentation show that the Countach was personalized with the shiny exterior carbon pack, red brake calipers and engine suspension, a silver Countach logo, and Bianco Leda contrast stitching throughout the interior.
Displaying a mere 185 kilometers from new, chassis 11159 represents the pinnacle of Sant'Agata's modern engineering capabilities and a fitting tribute to one of the most iconic automotive designs of the 20th century. One of just 112 units produced, this hypercar's pristine, like-new condition makes it an exceptional opportunity to acquire what is regarded as one of the most exclusive and technologically advanced creations ever to emerge from Lamborghini's Centro Stile division. Additionally, the VAT has been paid in Germany and is no longer deductible.
