Beschreibung
To Be OFFERED AT AUCTION WITHOUT RESERVE at RM Sothebys' Paris event, 4 - 5 February 2025.
- Powered by a 3.9-litre V-12 coupled to a synchromesh five-speed manual gearbox
- Originally finished in Blu Chiaro over Nero; now presented in silver
- US-market example with rare sunroof option, and featuring correct Borrani wheels
- Later exported to Italy and accompanied by a copy of its estratto cronologico
Ostensibly a development of the well-regarded 350 GT, the 400 GT carried over the most successful elements of its predecessor, including its Touring of Milan Superleggera bodywork, the rear of which was revised to incorporate its new 2+2 layout. The 350’s Bizzarrini quad-cam V-12 engine also remained, fettled and increased in capacity to 3.9 litres leading to a 50 horsepower increase in power to an impressive 320, which was sent to the road by an uprated fully synchromesh five-speed manual transmission.
This 400 GT 2+2 by Touring was originally finished in Blu Chiaro over a black interior, it is now finished in silver over grey leather, and was originally delivered to Kaplan, United States. In 1990, the Lamborghini returned to its native Italy, where it resided in the Bologna region, prior to joining The Curated Collection. Production number 80, this US-market example boasts a very rare factory-fitted sunroof, and rides on its correct 15-inch Borrani wire wheels fitted with Pirelli P4000 tyres, which house disc brakes on all four corners. It is accompanied by a classic inspection report, its registration paperwork, assorted correspondence documenting earlier restoration work and maintenance, and its estratto cronologico from its time in Italy. A wonderful example of Lamborghini’s genesis, this 400 GT would be a rare sighting at any event.
