Beschreibung

In addition to its beautiful styling, race-proven engineering, and brilliant performance, Jaguar’s E-Type adapted with ease to regulatory updates and owner demands throughout production. This 1968 Jaguar E-Type was built just prior to the rollout of the evolutionary so-called Series I 1/2, and full Series II models that soon followed.

Built immediately following the close of Series I production, and equipped with the newly mandated open-headlamp configuration, this E-Type retains the triple SU carburetors of its predecessor, in contrast to the soon-standard twin Strombergs. While technically designated a Series II car, E-Type devotees often refer to this fascinating transitional example as a Series I ¼, based on its chassis number and equipment, built just prior to the formal switchover to Series II status, retaining the aforementioned carburetors and toggle-type control switches of the Series I, differentiating it from the more widely seen Series I ½.

Interestingly, this special E-Type was previously owned by Francine Browner, the renowned fashion designer from Santa Barbara, California, before being purchased by the current owner in 2014. It was acquired in restored condition, with restoration work including the Carmen Red exterior finish, tan leather upholstery, black soft top, and matching boot cover. The engine, gearbox, clutch, and suspension were also restored, according to a description on file. A seldom-seen interim variant, this intriguing E-Type is sure to garner the attention of Jaguar devotees.
