Crafted by Ford's Special Vehicle Team (SVT), the SVT Cobra R represented the most potent Mustang offering of the Mustang's third generation. With a simple design philosophy, SVT set to work to create a no-compromise sports car.

Powered by an upgraded 5.0-liter V8, this super high-performance variant was the most volumetrically efficient engine Ford had to offer. Once complete, the engine produced 235 peak horsepower with a robust 280 lb-ft of torque. The car has improved cooling characteristics from a heavy-duty aluminum radiator, an auxiliary engine oil cooler, and a heavy-duty power steering cooler, ensuring optimal performance even under demanding situations. This power is combined with a close-ratio five-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential. Handling this power is a sport-tuned suspension with heavy-duty front struts and rear shocks, upgraded front and rear springs, an improved front stabilizer bar, a front strut tower brace, and large 17x8 inch cast aluminum alloy wheels housing 13 front and 10.5-inch rear vented disc brakes. The Cobra R's sporting intentions are clear.
