Beschreibung

Born from the visionary mind of Enzo Ferrari himself and named in loving memory of his son Alfredo “Dino” Ferrari, the Dino marked Ferrari’s entry into the mid-engine sports car segment. Originally unveiled in 1967 as the 206 GT, the Dino was continuously improved and updated throughout its production run, resulting in the updated 2.4-liter 246 GT and targa-top 246 GTS.

While each Dino that rolled off the production line was a stunning representation of Ferrari’s next generation of road cars, none were quite as representative as the Chairs and Flares models. This iteration is characterized by distinctive Daytona-style seats, Campagnolo cast alloy wheels, and noticeably flared wheel arches. The flares not only accommodate wider wheels for improved grip, but also lend to an aggressive, muscular stance on the road. When production ceased in 1974, fewer than 300 Dinos would be equipped with Chairs and Flares.

Chassis 08446, finished new in Argento Auteuil Metallizzato (Silver Metallic) over black leather, was purchased new through Schwing Motor Co. of Baltimore. A remarkable final-model-year 246 GTS, it was equipped from new with the highly sought-after Chairs and Flares features. Its original owner, Nick J. Nero of Kansas City, Missouri, served as its long-term caretaker for more than 20 years. It was then passed on to owners residing in Pennsylvania and, most recently, California. Throughout its ownership history, the 246 GTS has always been maintained as needed and never warranted a complete restoration.

Before being acquired by the consignor, a prominent East Coast collector, the 246 GTS was inspected by Ferrari specialist Stephen Markowski to confirm its condition. Although some age-related deterioration was found within the paint, Markowski’s inspection report on file noted a lack of previous bodywork, along with nicely patinated leather upholstery. Additionally, the report noted that the dashboard had been re-covered by GTO Engineering in Los Angeles. Following the inspection, a general service by Greg Jones, including the replacement of its top and door seals, hoses, clamps, and fluids, was carried out in 2023, addressing many of the items noted within the inspection documents. Subsequently, a period-correct Blaupunkt radio was sourced and installed. A recent report by Dino expert Matthias Bartz confirms that this car retains its original matching-numbers engine and gearbox.

Showing just 31,680 miles at the time of cataloguing, this ultimate-specification 246 GTS is accompanied by its original owner’s manuals, warranty book, window sticker, tools, and jack. A testament to the fastidious maintenance and preservation of its previous caretakers, 08446 presents today in wellmaintained, fundamentally unrestored condition, offering a rare opportunity to obtain an authentic Chairs and Flares Dino that can be driven and enjoyed for many years to come.
