Story
The De Tomaso Pantera Groupe 3 is a rare and specialized version of the iconic Pantera designed for competition under the Group 3 regulations established by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) during the 1970s. It was tailored for endurance and GT racing, making it highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts today.
Base Model: De Tomaso Pantera (produced from 1971 to 1992).
Purpose: Developed for FIA Group 3 racing, specifically for GT category competition.
Production Numbers: 28 builds
Powered by a Ford Cleveland 351 cubic-inch 5.8L V8 engine.
The engine was tuned for higher performance, offering power outputs ranging from 350 to over 400 horsepower depending on race configuration.
Performance upgrades often included high-performance carburetors (like Weber downdraft carbs), racing camshafts, and exhaust systems.
Reinforced chassis to withstand the rigors of racing.
Modified suspension with adjustable shocks and uprated springs for improved handling.
Wide track for greater stability and cornering.
Group 3 regulations allowed for mild aerodynamic enhancements.
Fitted with wider wheel arches to accommodate racing tires.
Upgraded braking system, including vented discs and racing calipers, to handle the demands of high-speed competition.
Wider wheels (Campagnolo magnesium alloys) with racing slicks or high-performance tires.
Designed for optimal grip and performance on the track.
Stripped-down interior to reduce weight.
Installed with mandatory racing equipment, including a roll cage, racing seats, harnesses, and a fire suppression system.
Group 3 Panteras are instantly recognizable due to their aggressive stance and flared wheel arches.
