The final evolution of the legendary DS, the DS 23 was released from the channels in September 1972. The engine develops 130 hp in its version with electronic injection. There are already rumours of succession within the Citroën family and the aging DS needs something new. The DS 23 replaces the 21 which will then be renamed "D Super 5" and will be equipped with the mechanical gearbox. The 2.3l engine, for the 1973 model year, is available in carburettor or injection versions, and can be coupled to three gearbox versions: mechanical, hydraulic or automatic. This engine has made a remarkable career of itself and brings even more flexibility and torque to the DS, allowing it to reach almost 190 km/h at top speed. The test driver André Costa of Auto-Journal will then appreciate a new character: "With its 130 hp and its plump power curve, the 23 has become, if its pilot so wishes, a fighter who, despite her weight, slips well on small roads while swallowing the highway with gluttony..."

The car we are interested in in these pages is a 23 Pallas beige Tholonet put into service on 21 / 05 / 1973, color then only available on Pallas models. Purchased new in 1973 in Lyon, it was bought by a merchant in 2005 and then sold to a Citroën dealer in Eure-et-Loir (Nogent-le-Rotrou). Displayed and kept by this dealer-collector, it remained in his possession from 2005 to 2009, date of its purchase by the current owner Mr. M. This car is therefore a 4th real hand. Today it is 107,000 km long, perfectly healthy and works perfectly because it is still maintained by the former Citroën dealer between 2005 and 2009, then by the Daunat garage. This explains why the roadworthiness test carried out in March 2019 is completely blank. It has a stainless steel exhaust and new XAS tyres in 185 X 380. Its velvet interior distinguishes it from most other DS Pallas ordered mainly in leather. The most advanced version of the DS line, this 23 Pallas IE also features a rare and fully functional air conditioning option, making it even more desirable and usable during the summer. On the test drive, the DS was a real treat to drive. Still modern, it can be easily moved in today's traffic. The hydraulic gearbox is perfectly adjusted and the gears move smoothly. The car is healthy and its behaviour is beyond reproach. This is an interesting opportunity to take advantage of a very nice DS 23 IE Pallas, top of the range of its time and equipped with rare original options.
