Levallois Perret's great bodybuilder, Henri Chapron, will be the first to offer a convertible version of the DS. It should be remembered that after the war and in the early 1950s, the automotive industry changed. The means of production are evolving and cars no longer have chassis, the trend is no longer towards excessive personalization and large cars made to measure for wealthy customers. Franay, Saoutchick, Figoni... it's the death of the great French car designers. When the DS came out at the end of 1955, Henri Chapron fell in love with these lines and finally saw in her the renewal of a great French sedan. Despite its monohull structure, the bodybuilder is preparing an original version of a convertible presented on his stand at the 1958 Motor Show. From then on, and in the face of its beauty and success, a real transformation saga began on the basis of DS: convertible, coupé, hard top, limousine, sedan with driver separation... etc.
The DS Chapron presented here is a Concorde Coupe version first put into service on April 14, 1965 in Roanne. It was commissioned by a local industrialist. This coupe is one of six built before the bodybuilder replaced it with the coach Le Leman presented at the Geneva Motor Show the following year. The base is a DS 19 with its 83 hp standard engine. The purchase invoice for this Concorde coupé at the time was 34,365 francs, while a standard DS 19 cost 14,245 francs, which was already a significant sum! The Chapron transformation was a real work of art on wheels and the first owner ordered all the possible options: Lowered windscreen, Triplex windows, fog lamps, special leather upholstery and "luxury" trim, and finally Robergel wheel covers that complete the range. Found in the Bordeaux region where she had been staying with a collector since the 1980s, Monsieur de Richeter bought it in the 1990s and undertook a major restoration. As the latter was a mechanic specialising in Rolls-Royce and Bentley, the mechanics were completely revised by him. Now on sale, this very exclusive version of the DS 19 Coupé, restored several years ago, requires some minor work on the brakes to get back on the road for a stroll or an elegance contest. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the first Coupé models, a testimony to a time when Henri Chapron was a designer for DS.

This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in La Ferté-Vidame, at the Citroën Centenary, France, on July the 21th, 2019.
