Beschreibung

Chrysler introduced a well-proportioned sedan version of its Town and Country model in 1946, with approximately 4,000 built through 1948. The Town and Country Sedan carried a 40% premium over Chrysler’s Windsor Sedan because of the extensive handwork required to properly fit the white ash framing and mahogany veneers to the contours of the doors and rear deck. These limited-production sedans account for less than 2% of Chrysler production.

This rare example joined Tim Burton’s collection in 1967, and he restored it himself. It is finished in Catalina Tan, which contrasts with the wood finishes on the doors and trunk. Wood adorns the interior door panels, and the seats are upholstered in red leather with Chrysler’s “Saran” inserts, a woven plastic material. Up front, the stylish color-keyed dashboard houses all instruments, a clock, radio, and heater, while the rear seat features a large fold-down center armrest, creating a club-like atmosphere. The trusty inline six-cylinder engine transmits power through Chrysler’s semiautomatic Fluid Drive transmission.

In addition to accessories, including a roof rack, dual spotlights, and fog lights, the trunk houses an original spare tire jack. Recognized by the CCCA, this car is eligible for judging events and club tours. This Town and Country Sedan perfectly exemplifies casual sophistication that is equally at home at the town market or on a weekend getaway.
