5.3-litre V8, 210bhp
Genuine 1960s ‘Pony Car’
High-performance, reliable, undemanding to own
The Camaro was born of the fierce 1960s rivalry between Ford and General Motors. When Ford struck hard with the 1964 launch of the Mustang, Chevrolet had to riposte. The first generation of Camaro was unveiled at the end of 1966, three years or so after the Mustang, and with a wide range of engines, stretching from a 140bhp ‘six’ to a 375bhp V8 on the SS. Built on the General Motors F-Body, as a coupé and a convertible, the Camaro’s unadorned muscular lines helped contribute to its success. With more than 600,000 made in the first year of production, it soon became the recognised rival to the Mustang in the ‘Pony Car’ market.
The featured car is in a very good state of presentation. Totally sixties in its pale metallic blue, it incarnates the ‘populuxe’ notion peddled by Detroit’s dream-makers at the dawn of the 1970s. The cockpit radiates sporting intent and the 5.3-litre 210bhp V8 provides the expected soundtrack while delivering a more than honourable performance via the classic two-speed GM Powerglide automatic transmission.
Agreeable to drive, the Camaro benefits in addition from air-conditioning and power-assisted steering. In the same ownership for more than six years, here is the opportunity to discover a car with a genuinely attractive character, mixing performance, sporty styling and proven reliabilty.
This car will be sold by auction by AGUTTES Auction House, in Paris, at the Espace Champerret, France, on June the 23th, 2019.
