Beschreibung

Chassis No. 3166867

Engine No. 43224973

Buick's 1937 design featured a revised Art Deco style with a divided front grille, horizontal bars, squared-off fenders, and streamlined headlight shells, with the body color-matched die-cast grille adding distinction. Despite lowering the overall height by 1.5 inches, the floor was dropped 2.5 inches to maintain headroom. Technical improvements included a quieter overhead valve mechanism, streamlined intake valves, a new oil pump, and a larger cooling system. The Buick Special also received a longer 122-inch wheelbase and a new 248 cu-in engine.

This rarely seen 1937 Buick Special Series 40 Convertible Phaeton is one of just 1,689 examples produced that year. Restored under prior ownership, this Buick has been part of The Academy of Art University Collection since 2011. Finished in brown with a brown vinyl interior, the car is nicely equipped with dual Trippe safety lights, twin side mount spares with hard covers, a Buick Master heater, and a dashboard-mounted AM radio. With the tan convertible top lowered, this Convertible Phaeton is a stylish pre-war Buick that can be enjoyed by the entire family.
