Beschreibung

-Deep Carriage Green with Tan Connolly leather interior, Tan Wilton Wool Carpeting and Tan Everflex convertible top, 3.7 liter, Special Series "SS" Vantage 3-carb specification engine, 4 Speed manual gearbox with overdrive, Numbers matching, One of 70 total manufactured, One of 11 Series IV's with the Special Series "Vantage" specification.

With the arrival of the Series IV DB4 were two exciting new developments. September 1961 marked the addition of the Special Series engine, while the following month, the first convertible DB4 was introduced. The SS engine increased power by more than 10%, from 240 bhp to 266 bhp, thanks to a third SU carburetor, larger valves and higher compression ratio. The convertible body was a costly option and was only available for the final two years of production, so accordingly, few were made. Of more than 1,200 DB4s built, only 70 were convertibles. Thirty of these were Series IVs, of which just 11 received SS engines.

Factory options include: Special Series engine, Sun visors, Chrome wire wheels, Map pockets, Illuminated oil temperature gauge, Laycock electronic overdrive and Engine oil cooler.

This DB4C was ordered through Aston Martin main agent Brooklands, Old Bond Street London and delivered, June 6th, 1962, to its first registered owner. In the 1970's it was imported to the United States, the name of the owner at this time is not known to us. In the late 1970's this DB4C was sold by the person who imported it from the UK to Dr. Peter Maggs of Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 1983, showing 90,000 miles on the original speedometer, the DB4C was purchased from Dr. Maggs by Mr. Phil Sudenfield of Boston, Massachusetts. It was at the time in need of restoration. In 1984, Mr. Sudenfield embarked on a ten year restoration. The DB4C was sent to well-known restorers, Hyannis Restorations for metalwork and paint with further work completed by Kurt's Custom Auto, New Hampshire for completion. At this time the odometer was set to zero. The engine was sent for a thorough strip and rebuild to Ted Wingate of Wingate Motors in New Hampshire. Mr. Sudenfield also took part in the restoration personally, including building the entire wire harness using factory correct materials.

Having complete a superb restoration as evidenced by its condition today, many years later. Mr. Sudenfield used and enjoyed his DB4C sparingly and seasonally, having accumulated 7,000 miles on its odometer since restoration. In 2020, Mr. Sudenfield sold the DB4C to a well-known vintage car dealer, it was later sold to a good client of Autosport Designs here in Long Island, New York. Since it has been housed in a large collection, serviced when and where needed and enjoyed during the New York Hampton seasons.

Offered today, this is a well-known, superbly restored older restoration that is still excellent in every way. One of only 70 DB4 Convertibles made and even more rare being one of only a handful made with an SS engine and factory overdrive. This incredibly rare and highly coveted DB4 Convertible with matching numbers and in excellent mechanical condition. A piece of Aston Martin History, this DB4 Convertible offers tremendous value and investment potential, it is accompanied by its original factory build sheet, superb ownership, service and restoration history and being among the rarest of all Aston DB dropheads, a welcomed addition to any serious Aston Martin or automobile collection throughout the world.
