Description
The Lancia Aurelia B24S convertible is a timeless masterpiece of Italian design, whose beauty inspired generations of sports cars. It was a personification of Italian elegance that enjoyed worldwide acclaim. The B24S convertible was the last and most advanced version of the Aurelia. With a larger engine, a luxurious interior and one of the first production cars with a De Dion rear suspension, the B24S was an innovative vehicle for its time. Only 701 examples were built and it is a highly sought after model for collectors, whose value keeps rising. It was an icon of Italian engineering art, and an ambassador of Italianism.
Our 1959 Lancia Aurelia B24S convertible is with a production number of only 701 copies a very exceptional appearance and certainly with its optional and original hardtop.
During a complete nuts and bolts restoration, no expense was spared to turn this Aurelia into a true jewel and a feast for the eyes. As a result, this example immediately falls into the concours class of cars and has already taken home several prizes. The original and matching Celeste body color together with the beige leather interior form an extremely stylish combination and make this car the apple of everyone's eye. Stepping into this car you feel exactly as if you were picking it up at the Lancia dealer in '57. Even the original, matching numbers engine was completely taken care of during the restoration which not only makes this car look like new but also makes it drive like new and be enormously reliable. Exactly everything you want in a car.
The Aurelia can be called a symbol of the stylistic and technical excellence of the Italian automobile industry. You notice this as soon as the hood opens: the famous, matching numbers alloy 2.5L V6 gleams with glory with a Nardi radiator pipe and twin Weber 40DCL5 carburetors on a cast aluminum Nardi intake manifold. This setup was an expensive option at the time, and thus very sought after and rare on these cars today. The engine starts perfectly and runs like a winch. The sublime 4-speed transmission puts the 149 horsepower of this Italian fury smoothly and easily on the road, guaranteeing you both a quiet Sunday drive and a nippy trip in daily traffic.
The Aurelia is sleek and pure, and that's what makes it still so sought after today. Film buffs will remember Dino Risi's 1962 road movie "Il Sorpasso" about a wild weekend on the Via Aurelia, with a starring role for the Lancia - and for Jean-Louis Trintignant, not only an actor but also a not inconsiderable racing driver.
This Lancia B24S Convertible is a pièce unique, technically and stylistically in top condition, a true piece of automotive history. Now to be found at Rock 'n Roll Classics, who knows, maybe soon in your collection.
