Description

We can safely say that fire prevention in St-Aubin, Switzerland, was fine. Why do we know that? Because this beautiful Landrover Series 3 109, with ultra low mileage, comes from there. To be more precise: from day one, we are talking about March 2, 1973, the car was part of the company fire brigade of the chemical company Ciba Geigy SA. The Landrover was not equipped with all kinds of fire extinguishers, but was merely a crew car, whose task was to get the men to the scene of the accident as quickly as possible. A flashing light, siren and the still present mobile phone were the only things that distinguish it from a civilian version. You can imagine that all those years that car was in motion, because it had to be usable at all times, it was in a perfect condition. But in total there were hardly any kilometers driven. Thus, the counter currently stands at an incredible 16.552 km! We are therefore talking about an unrestored Landrover in near mint condition. The connoisseurs immediately see that the car has had a very unusual, but wonderful life. Literally always parked in a heated garage, and you know what firefighters do when there is nothing to extinguish: punctual maintenance and cleaning of the equipment. That explains the exceptionally good condition. No, perfect condition.

Did the car come to the Netherlands in March 2020 in its current state? No, because as a member of the fire brigade you are expected to take on the well-known red color. And that’s how the car was all along. But the interior panels had the original Light Green color. We think the most beautiful color. Although we are also a bit biased because we are driving ourselves a 1964 Series 2A 88 in the same color for almost 20 years…

The Landrover was recently taken to the Dutch bodywork specialist Autorestauratie Raalte to make it completely “works delivery” again by respraying the exterior to its original color. And because they wanted a perfect result, a lot had to be dismantled. That is why all dried-out rubbers, for example the ones of the doors, were replaced. Nothing had to be filled or welded, because the body was already in superb condition. Not only the aluminum body, but also the underside looks like almost new. We’ll bet the Landrover has never seen a decent dirt road. After applying the new coat of paint, the car has also been technically checked and is now ready to enjoy.

Actually, this originality is much more beautiful than a restored example. Because we always say that ‘the soul’ is still in it. Everyone is looking for cars in a condition like this, but they are almost impossible to find. And in addition, the Landrover Defender, being the descendant of this 109, is no longer made. That immediately makes all types of Landrover descending from the Series even more popular than they already were.

There are many on the market, but few really good ones. They have often had a hard life and have not always been maintained by mechanics with real knowledge. That is why we are sincerely happy to be able to offer this car. A real classic that also drives as such: no flashy accelerations, large turning circle, noisy, not too economical in fuel consumption, and so on, we can name a few more things. But guys, what a joy it is to drive! Sturdy from front to rear bumper, the car to put in front of your trailer and it’s a joy to take the dog and a couple of children on tour.

An iconic car in superb condition on all fronts. Although…. There is some minor damage at the headlining on the driver’s side. It has a small dent… Let that be exactly the print of a firefighter’s helmet. A silent witness of taking a threshold just a little too hard. Let’s leave it that way. As a silent witness to reinforce the beautiful story of this unique car.

It is your honor to continue the history of this Landrover Series 3 109.
