In 1962, Alpine presented an extreme sports car, designed by Giovanni Michelotti, the A110.
It was inspired by the 108, with which it shared the general lines of the bodywork, made of fibreglass and mounted on a central beam chassis. On the outside, however, it was very different in terms of the design of the roof and tail, which were made sportier and more extreme in their design, as well as the front end with its double headlights. The engine of Renault origin was mounted in a rear overhang position and this required the creation of ventilation openings on the upper part of the wings.
It was certainly in 1966 that this car experienced its heyday, when the version with the Renault 1300 Gordini engine was released. This version was immediately noticed by everyone thanks to its countless victories in rallies, such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the first World Championship. Following agreements between Jean Redele and Renault, it was the first Alpine to have the lozenge of the French marque 'la Regie' on the front bonnet.
The magnificent example we are offering at auction is a real unicorn for motorsport enthusiasts around the world. The legendary A110 1300 VC. The car is presented with all its original components. The fibreglass bodywork is in excellent condition, no pain, cracks or rust of any kind. The yellow colour is the mythical Tournesol still very much alive and highlights its shapes designed to enhance the driving of whoever is driving it. Another element of originality is the headlamps with four powerful projectors and the air intakes for the front brakes. At the side, a receding line due to its height (only 1.113m). Rear with classic truncated tail and large rear window. Single-beam tubular chassis. Mechanically, the car is in excellent shape. During the last 20 years has always been rigorously maintained with rigorous servicing, covered in a warm garage. The interior is fully preserved, the seats are preserved as the dashboard and door panels. Very clear and functional instrumentation (made in Italy). It is also equipped with all its original Alpine plates (Chassis number, Bodywork, Type etc.). The car will be auctioned at Milano AutoClassica 2021 in incredible condition
