Imagine this: It is pension time, you are fit and healthy and full of the joys of life. You, therefore, decide to restore a car only to learn the car you bought has a fantastic back story! The previous owner of this Mk 2 Austin Healey 3000 discovered this car had a racing pedigree thanks to the keen eye of a specialist. The car had participated in races around the Chicago area. With over fifty medals and trophies, the car was not without its merits. The racing driver who took this car to the races was still alive. Correspondence between the previous owner and the then 82-year-old driver is included with the cars’ papers. As far as the car itself was concerned the decision was made to carry out a full “Nut & Bolt” restoration. The process took three years to complete between 2007 and 2010. As you may gather this has resulted in a truly magnificent restored Austin Healey. Right from the start, it was clear the base was very sound. Whilst the engine was taken apart it emerged that the crankshaft had been polished at some stage in the past. In racing, every advantage is worthwhile and polishing the crankshaft was good for a single extra horsepower. Now if that doesn’t show dedication! The bodywork was taken back to bare metal and repaired where needed. Everything was done to restore this car perfectly. After the bodywork had been attended to it was re-sprayed in its original colour. The inside was re-upholstered in lovely red leather and matching carpets. The stickers of various race tracks this car had visited in the past and originally attached to the car were preserved and reapplied when the restoration was completed. It certainly gives the car’s interior a unique cachet. The restoration also took care of the suspension with it being fully recoated, fitted with new bushes and shocks. The engine, transmission and diff were fully rebuilt and the steering housing replaced. Due to the extremely thorough manner, the restoration was being tackled it soon became clear the original two-year timespan to completion was not going to be met. Rather than jeopardise quality they were quite happy to let the project run over. In 2010 the Austin Healey was finally ready to hit the roads again. Since then it has been driven regularly without clocking up a lot of miles. The car is therefore still in excellent condition. The state of the paintwork on top, as well as underneath, is perfect. The bodywork is gorgeous, the interior trim is divine and mechanically speaking the car is in rude health. It cost over

€ 40,000 to restore this car to its former beauty. The car comes with every invoice incurred during the restoration, a rapport by the previous owner, manuals, a trophy and magazines.
