The Range Rover turns 50 years old

It’s been 50 years since the very first Range Rover rolled off the production line in Solihull. And to mark the occasion, Land Rover is building 1,970 colourful special editions of its flagship 4x4…

Generation 4x4

The Range Rover is 50 years old, and hasn’t it grown? Carpathian Grey, Santorini Black, Rosello Red and Aruba – they’re the ‘standard’ shades in which you’re most likely to spot a Range Rover Fifty, of which 1,970 will be built (referencing the year production of the flagship 4x4 started). However, an ‘extremely limited’ number of examples will be painted in heritage colours that were available for the original Range Rover: Bahama Gold, Davos White and Tuscan Blue. Other distinguishing features of the Fifty include the glossy black exterior trim, unique 22-inch alloy wheels and special ‘script’ badging created by Land Rover’s head of design Gerry McGovern. There’s no word on pricing yet, but a plethora of powertrain and wheelbase configurations will be available.
