For 1930, Henry Ford’s Model A was modestly redesigned. Roadster and Phaeton models gained fold-down windshields, and Deluxe and Standard Roadsters had different roof lines. The Deluxe had a shorter windshield and lower profile top, making it the sportier and jauntier of the two. Nineteen thirty-one was the final year for the Model A and brought subtle design modifications, several new body types and on April 14th production of the 20-millionth Ford – a Fordor sedan.
Model As could be dressed up with a number of factory accessories and many, like this 1931 Deluxe Roadster, were. Displayed in brown with black fenders with a saddle interior, tan top, light yellow wheels and tasteful pinstripes; this car has the popular rumbleseat and is further equipped with dual sidemount spares with pedestal mirrors, cowllights, etched windwings, quail radiator cap, luggage rack with trunk, full rear bumper, twin taillights, running board step plates, whitewall tires and grille guard. It is powered by a 200.5-cid, 40-hp inline four-cylinder engine that is connected to a three-speed manual transmission.
Model A Fords are tremendous fun. They are easy to maintain, accelerate swiftly and keep up with all but superhighway traffic. The full effect is felt in an open car, just like this one.
