Description
FORD A ROADSTER of 1929
This particular unit is fully restored, an ideal car for any vintage rally, easy to drive, reliability and unsurpassed beauty in simplicity, a 10 car.
History of the Ford A
In August 1927 the first prototype was ready. All that remained was the preparation of the tooling needed to manufacture the nearly 6,000 new parts for the new car. On October 21, the first car rolled off the assembly line at the new Rouge factory.
To christen the new model Henry Ford chose the name Model A, in homage to the first car he had sold in his life, also called this way.
The public presentation took place on December 2, with an unprecedented hype: it was estimated that more than ten million people saw the car in the first 36 hours after its first public showing!
The success of the new model was reflected in the sales figures: by the end of the 1929 fiscal year the Ford Motor Company had sold 34% of the total North American market, ahead of the 20% achieved by Chevrolet.
Production of the Model A continued until 1931. The mechanics did not undergo significant changes, except for the replacement of the multi-plate clutch by a single disc clutch; aesthetically suffered some tweaks in the radiator grille, the engine hood and instrumentation to suit the new fashions.
