Description

The 1984–1989 Porsche 911 G-series represents a significant era in the legacy of Porsche’s iconic sports car. Often referred to as the Carrera 3.2, these models marked the final evolution of the classic 911 design.

The biggest change was located well behind the driver. Claimed by Porsche to be almost 80% new, the enlarged 3.2-liter flat-six featured redesigned pistons, enlarged inlet and exhaust ports, and a compression-ratio increase. Developing 207 hp at 5,900 rpm and 192 lbs./ft. of torque at 4,800 rpm in early iterations, the engine introduced Bosch Motronic electronic fuel injection, which improved throttle response and fuel efficiency.

Testing the Carrera 3.2 in February 1984, Car and Driver enthused: “the Porsche 911 Carrera is the absolute embodiment of clench-jawed, tightfisted, slit-eyed enthusiasm run amok, a car for making the landscape pass with explosive fluidity. Strange that a car so serious can bring such unadulterated joy, but there you are, sporting an enormous, cheek-splitting leer when you unstrap and step out.”

This 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.2 was completed on February 8, 1985, and shipped to Father & Sons Inc. of West Springfield, Massachusetts. Taking delivery on March 27, 1985, this Carrera was very specifically ordered by Beverly Bondley of Scotia, New York, and finished in a seldom-seen, paint-to-sample Glacier Blue over a navy partial leather interior. Other options included a Blaupunkt Monterey cassette radio, “phone dial” wheels, alarm system, and electric sliding sunroof – resulting in a total MSRP of $36,300, according to the Carrera’s original window sticker on file.

Extremely involved within the Porsche Club of America (PCA) Hudson Champlain region, where she was treasurer, Ms. Bondley evidently cherished and maintained this Carrera 3.2 throughout her life, as documented by the CARFAX Vehicle History Report service notations. After her passing, the car was attended to by SST Auto in Danbury, Connecticut, in August 2023. Noting 13,096 miles on the odometer, SST performed a thorough service, including an oil change, fluid flush, brake repair, and engine bay insulation pad replacement. Offered with its books, tools, jack, spare, accessories, Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, and window sticker, this Carrera is also accompanied by two scrapbooks chronicling the original owner’s tenure at the PCA.

Recognized for its originality and history, this Carrera was subsequently purchased into a very distinguished American Porsche collection. Now displaying 13,137 miles at the time of cataloguing, this Carrera presents in remarkably well-preserved condition throughout, and is believed to retain the majority of its factory-applied finishes. Air-cooled Porsche collectors will find it difficult to find a more uniquely specified and better-preserved Carrera 3.2.
