Does this Talbot Lago T150 bring a teardrop to your eye?

Broad Arrow Group’s Monterey Jet Center auction isn’t short on stunning rides, but this Talbot Lago T150 Teardrop Coupé might be the most beautiful of them all.

How could one possibly replace a ride as spectacular as a 1930s Bugatti? Well, when it came time for gentleman race driver and banker Antoine Schumann to part with his Bugatti Type 50, there was only one other French marque that could compare: Talbot Lago.

This jaw-dropping 1938 T150 Teardrop Coupé was sold new to Schumann by Luigi Chinetti for 165,000 francs with a number of unique features. In fact, this is the only Figoni et Falaschi-bodied Teardrop Coupé built on the T150 C Lago Spéciale chassis. This combination of flowing, aerodynamic coachwork and powerful mechanical underpinnings proved to be fearsome in competition, with this unique Talbot Lago winning its class at the 1948 24 Hours of Spa.

Even ignoring this Teardrop Coupé’s impressive track record, its design alone is enough to place it among the most desirable automobiles ever made. The exterior is the epitome of Art Deco styling, while the cabin resembles something out of Lord of the Rings. If you find yourself as enamoured with this unique Talbot Lago as we are, then be sure to keep a close eye on Broad Arrow Auctions’ Monterey Jet Center sale on August 14th, where this car will go under the hammer.
