Alfa Romeo-powered vintage racing boats made waves on Lake Como

While there was plenty to admire on land at FuoriConcorso this year, the petroholics in attendance made full use of Lake Como’s stunning waters with a demonstration featuring two amazing Alfa Romeo-powered vintage racing boats!

Last weekend, FuoriConcorso certainly did not disappoint. Between the perfectly landscaped grounds of Villa Grumello and Villa Sucota, there was no shortage of four-wheeled wonders ready to take our breath away. However, in addition to the overload of automotive eye-candy on shore, the Motoring Attitude crew made sure attendees were treated to an equally marvellous maritime display featuring two incredible vintage racing boats, wowing onlookers with their torpedo-esque fuselages and the divine noise coming from their straight-piped Alfa Romeo hearts.

Compared to modern power boats, the small stature of the bright red 1966 Angelo Molinari racing boat and black and yellow 1970 Lucini racing boat — each of which was powered by tuned 2.0-litre Giulia engines — seemed closer to what you’d expect from a jet ski. However, despite choppy conditions, pilots Giulian Bryner and Angelo Perelli still donned their life vests before putting on quite the show. Seeing the wooden hulls of these vintage racers leap clear of the water — with only their propellors breaking Lake Como’s surface — was truly a sight to behold, while we can still hear the sweet ring of their four-cylinder firecrackers in our ears.

In addition to Mr. Byrner and Mr. Perelli, we must also thank Alberto Huober, AeroClubComo and Club Nautico Le Gabbiane for this amazing display. If you ask us, we wouldn’t mind vintage racing boats becoming a permanent fixture for Como Car Week!
