Snapshot, 1970: Cheer up Steve, it might never happen...

Le Mans is both over schedule and over budget, with no clear plan in place for its completion. Sturges will soon grow so frustrated with McQueen that, much to the actor’s personal disdain, he’ll quit, along with the production company. An incomplete script and indecisive (not to mention womanising) McQueen can be partly to blame, though perhaps this project was doomed from the beginning. After finding a replacement production company and a new director in Lee H. Katzen, the film will eventually be completed, though its critical acclaim will take decades to garner.

Snapshot, 1975: Is it Cozy in the there, Mr Powell?

By this time, both Powell’s drumming prowess and insatiable need for speed have made themselves evident – indeed, his 1973 solo drum instrumental ‘Dance With The Devil’ reached number three in the UK charts and, more recently, he raced a Hitachi-sponsored Mazda in a Radio 1-sponsored ‘Fun Day’ and won his class. In an interview, he’s been quoted as saying “I drive like I drum – madly.” He might never make it as a pro, but he’s certainly got the stare of intensity down to a tee.

Bad day? Spare a thought for these bumbling Fiat 500 mechanics...

As university projects go, we think you’ll agree that this short animated clip is a rather good one. We all know that someone who’s a little too clumsy for their own good, but these two chaps take things to a higher level – quite literally. You certainly wouldn’t trust them to change the oil on your beautiful blue Cinquecento, in any case...

Single-seaters vs. spouses at the Credit Suisse Historic Racing Forum

At the 2016 Goodwood Revival, Credit Suisse forum regulars Sir Stirling Moss, Jochen Mass, Derek Bell and Alain de Cadenet were joined by IndyCar hero Dario Franchitti and Le Mans winner David Brabham. Master of Ceremonies Henry Hope-Frost was given the (difficult) task of keeping such outspoken personalities on-track of the chosen topic, which this year was ‘Closed Cockpit versus Single Seaters: The Path to Motorsport Glory’.
