The Edinburgh-born photographer Albert Watson took this study (above) of the famous English director in 1973. Hitchcock is seen in black tie, carrying a plucked goose similarly dressed for dinner. A bizarre image, but one that captures the slightly odd nature of its principal subject. Numbered 24 of 25, it’s estimated at GBP 6,000 – 8,000 and will be offered by Christie’s at its 15 May, King St, London sale.
The shape and components used are very much inspired by V10 and V12 racing engines. The intricately designed, handcrafted coffee-racing machine is built from materials used widely in motorsport, such as aluminium, magnesium and titanium. Meanwhile, a special filter bears more than a passing resemblance to an oil filter, and helps to ensure that perfect espresso corretto flavour. Only 500 Veloce machines for each engine type will be made.
The 'junior' car, with its glassfibre bodywork, working lighting system, a leather steering wheel and disc brakes, has participated in the Little Big Mans support race at the Le Mans Classic.
It’s got one over its full-scale older brother, though, as it has an automatic clutch for the 5-speed gearbox.
Together with Marc Jacobs, the Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton, he studied firm archives and historical luggage to come up with the design for an authentic calf-leather suitcase which plays a role in the action.
