The Rover brand was always at the heart of the British motor industry, having been founded in 1904. It endured some complicated mergers and reshuffles from the 1970s onwards, but spawned the successful Land Rover and Range Rover sub-brands. Rover was discontinued in 2005 shortly after being acquired by BMW.
