Description
Chassis No. 1592002056
The Volkswagen Beetle has long been cherished as a reliable, simple, and affordable mode of transportation, winning the hearts of car enthusiasts for decades. Among its various models, the Convertible stands out, especially in its final and most collectible Super Beetle form built for the 1979 model year with its 1,600 cc air-cooled flat-four and four-speed manual.
The original window sticker shows that this 1979 Super Beetle Convertible entered the United States through the Port of Wilmington, Delaware. The car ultimately went to Hillcrest Motors Inc. of New Kensington, Pennsylvania. With a total price of just under $6,400, this striking Mars Red example was ordered with a Black vinyl interior and contrasting White convertible soft top. Accompanying the car is the original title issued on 17 April 1979 to its first owner in Leechburg, Pennsylvania. Likely aware that the long-lived Beetle would soon cease production for the U.S.-market, the original owners of this car had the foresight to see the collectible it would become today. As a result, the car remained a cherished example that was never driven to preserve its originality and collectability.
Today, the car remains in virtually "as-delivered" condition, covering just 22 miles at the time of cataloging. With numerous original Wolfsburg factory-applied markings and finishes found throughout, this example still rides on its original set of 165SR15 Continental tires. The sale includes its original books, convertible boot cover, title, window sticker, and its uninstalled radio antenna. This 1979 Volkswagen Super Beetle Convertible is a museum-quality car in every sense of the definition and is among the finest, most original examples currently on offer.
